HARRY POTTER and the PHILOSOPHERS'S STONE NAMED BEST BOOK!

UK book chain Waterstone's announced the Top 25 Books of the Past 25 years, as voted for by their customers, and the number one book on the list was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The announcement was made to celebrate the chains silver jubilee and the nominations were made by publishers, editors and agents.

Gerry Johnson, Managing Director of Waterstone's, unveiled the list yesterday and said:

When Waterstone's asked the publishing industry to tell us who they thought would be the great talents of our second quarter century, we received a wonderful and eclectic array of nominations covering all tastes and genres.

It was incredibly tough to choose just 25 of them, but I think our final list includes a sparkling selection of talent - these authors will be on the bestseller and the awards lists for years to come.

J.K.Rowling's Fantastic Website - Diary Update: BEWARE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

Author JK Rowling has told fans to be wary of false rumours regarding the plot of her final Harry Potter book.
"There will always be sad individuals who get their kicks from ruining other people's fun," she said on her website.

She hoped, however, that her readers would "embark on the last adventure they will share with [Harry] without knowing where they are they going".

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh instalment in the series, will be published on 21 July.

As a result, Rowling said, "the first distant rumblings of the weirdness that usually precedes a Harry Potter publication can be heard on the horizon".

"Some, perhaps, will read this and take the view that all publicity is good publicity, that spoilers are part of hype, and that I am trying to protect sales rather than my readership," she continued.

"However, spoilers won't stop people buying the book - they never have. All it will do is diminish their pleasure."

The author has said that two characters will die in the book, which she has described as her favourite of the series.

The Harry Potter books have sold more than 300 million copies
The fourth Harry Potter novel and David Beckham's autobiography are among the books least likely to be finished by Britons, according to a survey.
Booker winner Vernon God Little was the least-finished fiction title, followed by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Autobiographies by David Blunkett, Bill Clinton and David Beckham topped the non-fiction unfinished list.

A Teletext survey of 4,000 Britons found that almost half of the books they bought remained unfinished.

UNFINISHED FICTION
1 Vernon God Little, DBC Pierre
2 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling
3 Ulysses, James Joyce
4 Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Louis De Bernieres
5 Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell
6 The Satanic Verses, Salman Rushdie
7 The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho
8 War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy
9 The God of Small Things, Arundhati Roy
10 Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky
Some 35% of those who bought or borrowed Vernon God Little, DBC Pierre's story of a US high school massacre, admitted not finishing it.

The figure was 32% for the fourth instalment in the Harry Potter series, while 28% said the same for James Joyce's Ulysses, third on the list.

The fiction top 10 also included Louis De Bernieres' Captain Corelli's Mandolin (27%), made into a film starring Nicolas Cage and Penelope Cruz.

Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses, over which a Muslim fatwa was issued ordering the writer's execution, was unfinished by 21%.

UNFINISHED NON-FICTION
1 The Blunkett Tapes, David Blunkett
2 My Life, Bill Clinton
3 My Side, David Beckham
4 Eats, Shoots & Leaves, Lynne Truss
5 Wild Swans, Jung Chang
6 Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking
7 The Downing Street Years, Margaret Thatcher
8 I Can Make You Thin, Paul McKenna
9 Jade: My Autobiography, Jade Goody
10 Why Don't Penguins' Feet Freeze?, Mick O'Hare
On the non-fiction list, former home secretary Blunkett's The Blunkett Tapes was too much for 35% of readers, followed by Clinton's My Life (30%) and Beckham's My Side (27%).

The average Briton spent more than £4,000 on books during their lifetime, the survey found.

Less than a quarter of people found time to read every day, with 48% saying they were too tired.

IS J.K. A GRAFFITI ARTIST?

JK Rowling finished writing her latest book, Harry potter and the Deathly Hollows at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh
When she finished it she scribbled a note to fans on a marble bust in the Edinburgh hotel room she was staying in.

In black marker on an antique-style statue, she wrote: "JK Rowling finished writing Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 Jan 2007."

The hotel confirmed the Edinburgh-based author signed a bust in the hotel.

However the spokeswoman for the 188-room city centre Balmoral, where rates range from £290 to £1,575 a night, refused to say which room the author had stayed in.

A spokeswoman for the author said: "We can confirm JK Rowling did write some of the book at the Balmoral last month and did complete the book at that hotel."

So, which room did she stay in? anybody know?

New Link to J.K.Rowling's Fantastic Website!

Well in the end it all came down to a vote, do we have our own J.K.Rowling page with her biography, news, appearences and interviews or do we simply link to J.K's really rather brilliant website? The choice: a page of writing from us verses port keys, moths and a very untidy desk. In the end the port keys, moths and desk won and we decidied to link straight to J.K. Rowlings own, very very well put together site, so if you have not been able to find it on the menu to the left (?!?!?!?!?!?) then here you go:

Despite Reports Emma Watson Is Not Quitting Harry Potter

Emma Watson has agreed to do the last two Harry Potter movies, even though reports came out earlier this year that she had told film bosses that she wanted to leave.
A spokesperson for Warner Bros. said: "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven."

And during her latest interviews for the new Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, released in the UK on July 13th 2007 ) she has said that she is sure she will continue playing the role of Hermione Granger until all seven films are complete. However as of yet the future contracts have not been signed so we still await confirmation.

Daniel Radcliffe has already signed to do all seven films in the Harry Potter saga which when they are completed will mean that he will have been playing the role for about ten years! The filming of the sixth film Harry potter and the Half Blood Prince is due to start filming in September 2007 with a release date scheduled for the latter part of 2008.

Harry Potter Theme Park?

Universal Studios Florida is finalizing plans to bring a Harry Potter themed attraction to its Orlando resort, according to recent online gossip. So far there has been no confirmation of what the attraction will be although the latest gossip has it as being a complete Harry Potter world which means a great number of themed rides might be in the pipeline!
Its all rumour at the moment as there’s been no official world from Universal or from Warner Brothers, which holds the film rights to the Harry Potter franchise.
