THE
BOOK
SYNOPSIS:
J.K.Rowlings third Harry Potter adventure
Harry Potter is a wizard. He is in his
third year at the ever more amazing Hogwarts School
of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's always a relief to
return to school after summer with the terrible Dursleys.
However, Harry doesn't realise that this year will be
just as eventful as the last two! The atmosphere at
Hogwarts is extremely tense. There's an escaped (quite
possibly mad) mass murderer on the loose, even the Muggles
and the muggle prime minister have been warned. The
sinister prison guards of Azkaban have been called in
to guard the school and Harry, Ron and Hermione rapidly
discover why all witches and wizards live in fear of
being sent to Azkaban. Lessons, however, must go on
and there are lots of new subjects in the third year
- Care of Magical Creatures and Divination among others,
plus the delights of trips to Hogsmeade, the only village
in the UK entirely populated by the magical community.

Interesting
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban fact no 1:
After the death of Richard Harris, many actors were
considered for the vacant role of Albus Dumbledore.
Christopher Lee was in the frame for a while, and there
was a rumor (reported in many newspapers) that Ian McKellen
was also considered. The Harris family wanted 'Peter
O'Toole (I)' to be cast for the role but O'Toole declined.
Richard Attenborough also lobbied for the role but was
ultimately turned down. Ian McKellen turned down the
role of Dumbledore. Having appeared as Gandalf in The
Lord of the Rings, he said, "I had enough trouble
living up to one legend. Two would be too much to hope
for." Professor Dumbledore seemingly stalls the
executioner by saying that he needs to sign the execution
order, and that he has "a very long name".
In the book "Order of the Phoenix", his full
name is revealed to be Albus Percival Wulfric Brian
Dumbledore. |
Interesting
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban fact no 2:
Executive producer Chris Columbus (who directed the
first two films) offered the role of director to Alfonso
Cuarón after watching Cuarón's A Little
Princess (1995). Alfonso Cuarón had never read
the Harry Potter books or seen the first two movies
when he was offered the job of director. Alfonso Cuarón
appears in the film in the cameo role of the man seated
holding two lit candles when Harry enters Madame Rosmerta's
Tavern. another cameo in the film is Ian Brown the singer
(formerly of the Stone Roses) who appears briefly in
the bar at the start of the movie reading "A Brief
History of Time". He was originally cast as the
pub landlord, but the role was cut right down due to
timing issues.
|
Interesting Harry Potter and
the Prisoner of Azkaban fact no 3:
Alfonso Cuarón had an idea for there to be
tiny people inhabiting Hogwarts, and jumping on piano
keys in one scene. J.K. Rowling firmly vetoed it,
saying tiny people were completely foreign to the
world of her books.
